The opioid epidemic has had a devastating impact on families and towns across West Virginia. Mark believes that the root of the problem is poverty. Drugs are a symptom of poverty. For years now the same old politicians have made promise after promise on this issue and delivered no result. The first step to fixing this issue is to have a leader that treats is like the public health emergency, it is. Mark will focus on prevention, treatment, recovery, and accountability for those who fueled this crisis in the first place. We can be tough on criminals and also offer second chances for the victims. Mark will expand access to quality treatment and recovery programs. Mark will promote legislation that will fight illegal drug trafficking without criminalizing addiction itself. Mark believes that when people have real economic opportunity and hope for the future, they’re far less likely to be drawn to drug use to begin with. Together, we can save lives and give our communities the tools it needs to rebuild.
