We have put politics above education for too long. WV is ranked 47th in the nation and

I urge you to consider and support the following proposals that could have a profound impact on our students, educators, and communities:

1. Raise Teacher Pay to a Minimum of $60,000, with a 15% Across-the-Board Increase
    We are losing qualified educators to neighboring states that offer better pay and support. It's time we recognize teachers as professionals with specialized skills and compensate them accordingly.
   
   

2. Implement Universal Pre-K for All 3- and 4-Year-Olds
    Early childhood education improves long-term academic success, reduces dropout rates, and helps close achievement gaps—especially in high-poverty areas. Neighboring states are already investing in this; West Virginia must not fall further behind.
   
   

3. Increase Funding for School Sports and the Arts
    These programs are not extracurricular luxuries—they are essential to student development, engagement, and well-being. Every child deserves access to a well-rounded education.
   
   

4. Expand Access to Mental Health Counselors in Schools
    The mental health crisis among our youth is real and growing. More in-school counselors mean earlier interventions, safer school environments, and better outcomes for all students.
   
   

5. Invest in School IT Administrators and Technology Experts
    To prepare students for a rapidly changing workforce, we must ensure schools are equipped to teach digital literacy, computer science, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence. That requires qualified professionals in every district.
   
   

These proposals are not just investments in education—they are investments in West Virginia’s future.
